My Dad who used to cover (photography) sporting events in the Northeast Ohio area for most of the 60's used to tell me about Arnie and Jack when they played at Firestone Country Club. In those days, though he was about 4-5 years older than Jack, my Dad was a dead-ringer for him, flat top and all. He said Arnie used to kid my Dad in front of people like, "hey Jack, when did you take up photography?" and stuff like that. My Dad said Arnie was a very gracious man and the whole area lit up in his presence. Another legend departs us...

    Mr. Palmer.

No finer name in sports, or most any other walk of life.

Not a lot of men in this world I refer to as Mr. Always did with Mr. Palmer, even when he told me to call him Arnie.

He was awesome. My dad played a round once with him in the early 60s thru one of his corporate sponsors. My dad who rarely golfed was out of his league. Mr. Palmer was so nice to him that he did not feel guilty that he shot well over 100. He made the experience very relaxing for a novice golfer.

Beautiful, simple full-page tribute to Mr. Palmer in yesterday's WSJ.
