    Who is playing in this?

BJ - Did your host get you in yet or do you need Shifter to make the call?

First I was waitlisted, then I'm in, now supposedly back to waitlisted. I guess my real question is also whether I am coming into town that weekend or not??

The thing I don't like about that tournament is all the rebuy opportunties, so even though the starting field is like 120 runners, all the rebuys water down the field.

yeah, as is the custom these days, it's HEAVILY weighted to favor the AQs and EQs.

they've structured it so the main field is like a play-in game just to make the actual event.

    120 players play for 2 spots + 1 WC.

AQ is 20 players for 2 spots + 1 WC.

EQ is 5 players for 2 spots + 1 WC.

I mean, shit, 120 players for 2 spots, you pretty much have to win an entire tournament just to get the privilege of playing in the semis. so they trick the main field players into thinking it's the event, when the actual event is taking place with the qualifiers.

and as usual they have obscene rebuy fees of which NONE of it goes back into the pot.

5k rebuys in the AQ and 25k rebuys in the EQ plus an add-on at the same price. I see the same guys at all these events and some of them have more money than God and couldn't care less about dumping 20-50k in rebuys/add-on to make the FT.

the last event I was in at Mirage, it was a 300k prize pool and we calculated that they easily took in 300k+ in rebuy/addon money. so the players basically paid for their own "invited guest" event.

Yep, it's probably + EV for them to spend 50k to make the final table with a chance to win it all. The rebuys probably cover the prize pool itself so MGM Corp is freerolling, and getting big customers to come into town

    there's no doubt they will.

I remember the days when they had solid freeze-out events where they actually paid out good money just to get you into town.

now it's all about making the poker tournament itself profitable before they even take any of your money at the tables.

seriously I feel dumber and dumber for going back every trip.

and even dumber for leaving town last trip when I could have had a 1/24 chance for 888k.

Well I guess I am back in. Had to use my contacts (lol) to get in for sure now. Only question is do I come in for a free-for-all style tournament? It would be the only reason for coming in, except to see Shifter stand up Eric at Christophe one more time, lol, lol.

Tellafriend, hope you are able to make it as have not seen you for a while now.
