Not only that, but at the end of your trip, you wind up back in Jacksonville!

I always fly AA and it's been seriously volatile for me this year. My flight for Super Bowl weekend was like $250 round trip. For the late July trip, it's around $600.

we used google flights recently to book an International trip. Takes a lot of the back and forth between different websites out of the mix and does make booking and comparing a lot easier

True words. It costs more to get out of miserable places. :)

SWA is as bad as United out of Houston most of the time now, too ... they just puppet one another. It's been brutal post-merger, and there are decreasing instances of American (through DFW) or Spirit being all that much more attractive just on price. It fucking sucks.

IAH post-merger has had on a recurring basis the highest average domestic airfare prices in the U.S. It really sucks.

Basically the same situation for me out of CLT, an American hub. I thought Southwest arriving last year would drive down fares a bit but I haven't had a flight to LAS under $500 in quite some time, although I always exclude redeyes. Status definitely comes into play on a 5 hour flight, I've had decent luck with upgrades clearing and also have the safety net of main cabin extra seating at no charge if not.

Obviously I'm only looking at a single route, but I found SWA to start high and stay high this year for summer dates. I check every day, so I've been able to rebook one leg on a dip for $60 less than the most common price, but even that is still $40 or $50 than I've had to pay in past years.

But one thing I've noticed that I never saw SWA do before is they've been cutting the price in the last 7 days before departure. In the past, all the Wanna Get Aways usually are either sold out or get pulled inside 7 days.

So it may be that they're getting people to pay higher prices in advance, but ending up with empty seats they need to discount to get rid of.

Try looking at the monthly calendar for June and see if this applies to your route.

Strangely the travel industry expects this summer to be the cheapest for travel in 20 years due to competition, less travel due to terror threats concerning people and low oil prices.

I managed to get a RT to LAS from London via. Dublin for $1500 in Business Class with BA for my upcoming solo trip. ITA Matrix really is an amazing tool if you learn how to work it.
