Wasn't sure where the best spot to post this was so here it is. My buddy has been on a good tear recently. On a trip with me to Vegas last November, he turned $1000 into $13,000 over the course of our 4 day trip. Most of this was done playing blackjack at Harrahs. Living in Memphis, he was been frequenting the Horseshoe casino in tunica since the Vegas trip. The winning continues. Just yesterday, he cashed out $30,000 up, all from blackjack. He's probably up over $50,000 including the Vegas trip since mid November.

He has no host. I'm sure one would love to get their hands on him. Should he just go ask for one? Will they then look at his ratings and will they look at them since vegas in November? Will they be able to hook him up with a Total Rewards host in Vegas? If so, what kind of offers might he receive based on his wins and his betting from several hundred to a thousand a hand? Thanks for any input.

From the information you provided, it is quite strange that your friend hasn't had a host contact him yet if he was betting several hundred to a thousand a hand. Unless, he was doing hit and run sessions. Remember, offers/comps are based off play (amount of time played and money put at risk), and not wins. Someone can win 30k in less than 10 minutes but it doesn't necessarily mean they will get great offers. I'm not a BJ player, but theo generated from BJ is not less than other table games and slots. Did you friend grind for several hours a session or played 15-30 minutes here and there, it makes a difference. But nonetheless, betting a few hundred to a thousand a hand should have generated some attention for a host to get in touch with him. If not, then you friend can just stop by a host office and ask for one to discuss his play, warranted comps, and maybe future offers and stays.

I would appreciate a recommendation for a new host at the Bellagio. I'm a black chip player but I know better than to ask for too much, so I'll be low maintenance/low drama. Alternatively, would I be treated any better at the Mirage?

Thanks for the response. Definitely he was grinding it out. He probably played for 6 to 8 hours straight each day in Vegas and has done at least that in his trips to the local. He did tell me that when he sat at a couple of machines briefly at the horseshoe Tunica, someone came up to him to ask if he needed anything, made sure he was ok. It wasn't a waitress. I told him that was definitely a host and that they were obviously looking for him. I thought that based on his play and average bet with the hours put in, a host would have been more aggressive, at least given a business card or something.

Regarding your friend’s play, did he always buy in and drop the cash with a player’s card on top, did he play for hours at a time a single table or move around every few minutes, and did he ask what he was rated at conclusion of each session?

My experience is that a host has always made contact with significant play, until they get to know you, then it is more of a trip check-in, check out, sort of thing. That said, I believe one can speed up the host/player relationship once the host asks if you “need anything,” by making use of the host’s offer to help. So, even under CET where the policy is to use rewards credits first ahead of discretionary comps, a player starting from scratch that is yet bank a lot of credits can request the host upon contact to make a dinner or show reservation to be settled on the back end of the trip.

I have found that partaking in significant play, followed by the initial host contact, and then asking the host to perform a small task has always been followed up by the host making contact post trip with the hope of arranging a successive return trip. And a value added player/host relationship can probably happen faster in Vegas than satellite locations.
